"Kintsugi" meaning "golden joinery" is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It honors the process of breakage and repair as part of the history of the object, as opposed to something to hide in shame.
This piece is titled "Kintsugi” because it was inspired by a piece I had created, but didn't go according to plan. It is composed of broken pieces that have now become art once again.
This piece is made out of polymer clay, acrylic paint and gilded paint. Each piece was hand painted, sanded, and gilded around the edges to form a mosaic.
The center reads "there is beauty in the broken pieces."
The art itself is 8 x 10 inches, and can sit on a flat surface or hang on the wall. It is behind glass.
Each of my pieces is made specifically for the frame that it is sold with-- please do not remove the art from the frame.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope you enjoy!
